On behalf of the Welsh Government, JNCC is organising the Wales LIFE Forum and Project Initiation Workshop which will help guide the development of Nature and Biodiversity LIFE projects in Wales from inception through to submission, providing assistance and advice throughout the process.

The day will be split into two sessions. The morning session will focus on setting up a Wales LIFE Forum. The objectives of the Forum will be discussed at the workshop, but initial suggestions include:

Focusing on improving success for Wales LIFE Nature and Biodiversity bids;

  • Identifying priorities for LIFE funding using the Prioritised Action Framework (PAF), LIFE Multi-Annual Work Plan (MAWP), LIFE Natura 2000 Programme for Wales and Welsh biodiversity policy initiatives;
  • Identifying partners to work together to develop bids within Wales and potentially cross border;
  • Identifying common issues/barriers to producing LIFE bids and find solutions to facilitate joint partnership bids for LIFE; and
  • Seeking out potential matched funding.

The afternoon’s Project Initiation Workshop will focus on developing Nature and Biodiversity LIFE bids for peatlands. The country’s leading peatland specialists will be represented alongside stakeholders, government officials and representatives from Natural Resources Wales and other country conservation bodies.
