African-Eurasian Flyway ConferenceFlyway Bird Banner

14 - 15 March 2019

JNCC are delighted to be hosting leading conservationists from across the African-Eurasian flyway to discuss the implementation of the African-Eurasian Migratory Landbird Action Plan (AEMLAP).

The AEMLAP has been agreed upon by all the Parties to the UN Convention on Migratory Species, including the UK. The plan outlines the high-level actions which are required to ensure the conservation of landbirds which migrate between Africa and Europe. But to date there has been a lack of resources to implement the plan.

By bringing together leading conservationists from both governmental and non-governmental organisations, JNCC is hoping to help change this. By providing a neutral space for discussion, it is aimed that the workshop will lead to the creation of a series of project plans. Plans which can then be presented to funders to help being the implementation of the AEMLAP.

As the UK’s statutory advisor on international conservation matters, JNCC plays a leading role in providing technical advice on the development and implementation of international nature conservation agreements, including those relevant to the African-Eurasian flyway. By funding and hosting this workshop, JNCC hopes to contribute further to these agreements and, in doing so, further the UK’s ambitions to increase its international engagement in environmental matters.
